Photographing a wedding may seem like a daunting task, running around for an entire day trying to get the perfect shots that your clients will look at for years to come. But never fear! Shooting a wedding is an amazing experience, but it is one you need to be prepared for. Here is a checklist for the basic necessities to make sure you never miss a single moment:
Gear:
- Multiple camera bodies capable of shooting in low light
- Make sure they have appropriate straps for how you plan to carry them
- Multiple lenses with fast apertures
- At least one of these should be a zoom lens
- Spare camera batteries
- Spare memory cards
- Any external lights, flashes, stands, and modifiers you will need (scope out the venue first)
- Spare batteries for lighting equipment
- Wireless trigger system
- A tripod
- Practical camera bag to hold and protect your gear
- Lens cleaning kit
- Something to cover your camera with if it starts to rain, like a plastic bag
- Any props you plan to use for portraits (champagne, confetti, etc.)
Other:
- Water
- Coffee
- Snacks
- Small sewing kit in case needed by the wedding party
- Small medical kit
- Wear comfortable shoes!
- Timeline for all scheduled events throughout the day
- List of photos you will be taking, approved by the bride and groom beforehand
- Business cards in case guests ask
