Tips for Bringing Dogs Along to Sessions
Tips for Bringing Dogs Along to Sessions: How to Include the WHOLE Family! Bringing a dog into your life creates such a special and unbreakable bond. It is one of the most pure relationships full of unconditional love. And it is those bonds that I love capturing. Dogs bring such a fun and playful air to any photo session, but often times it can be hard to know exactly what you will need to help the session go as smoothly as possible. I wanted to put together a list to make your planning that much easier!
Tip #01
First and foremost, treats and toys! Dogs don’t understand general posing directions as well as we might like. So a little helpful hint with a treat or squeaky toy to grab their attention and get them looking in the right direction can go a long way. While it can be great for getting them to sit still, toys can also be great for fun playful shots too of you and your furry friend. Whether it’s a playful game of tug of war or those awesome action shots during a particularly energetic game of fetch, treats and toys are a must on any photo shoot where you bring your furry friends along.
Tip #02
Props and dress up! Whether you have a big announcement to make and you want your dog to be a part of it or they have a favorite bandana they love to wear, it’s those extra little touches that will make your photos that much more personal.
Tip #03
Making sure you have the necessities is also important. Making sure to pack a bag with things like water, for you and the dog, and a bowl to put it in as well as poop bags are all things that are easy to forget in the spur of the moment. You’ll be so glad you have them once you’re out and about.
Tip #04
Another thing to think about before heading out for your photoshoot is to get them all cleaned up and ready to go beforehand. Whether this is the full grooming experience or just a simple bath, you want them to look their best. At the end of the day dogs will be dogs and they are bound to get dirty again, but that extra effort can really make them shine in the photographs.
Tip #05
A great way to make sure your dog is coming into the session relaxed and ready to go is to make sure you enter into the session with a calm and positive state of mind. Dogs feed off of their owners energy and the flow will make all of the difference in how your dog behaves. It also helps if you walk or exercise your dog in some way before coming to your photo session. It helps get all of their “zoomies” out beforehand so they are more relaxed and focused on the task at hand instead of bouncing off the walls.
Tips for Bringing Dogs Along to Sessions
While bringing a dog into a photo session usually presents itself with its own unique quirks every time. They also make the best companions both in front of the camera and off. They add that extra level of love and personality to every session and they are always welcome as far as I’m concerned!
