The Heart Behind Saaty Photography: Honoring My Mother

Honoring My Mother, Christine: The Heart Behind Saaty Photography. As I reflect on the journey of building Saaty Photography into what it is today, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible woman who made it all possible—my mother, Christine. She passed away from cancer this past August, and while the loss is immeasurable, her influence on my life and my work continues to shine brightly in everything I do.

From a very young age, my mother nourished my love for photography. I vividly remember sneaking away with her camera and using entire rolls of film to photograph my Barbie dolls. Rather than scold me, she encouraged my creativity. She gifted me my earliest film cameras as a child and, later, her cherished college film camera when I was in high school. When digital photography became a thing, she made sure I had my first digital camera—a gift that opened up new creative horizons for me.

My mother’s support extended far beyond just providing tools. She spent countless afternoons and evenings exploring Phoenix with me, allowing me to document the city, my ideas, and its beautiful sunsets. She would dress up and pose for my experiments, brainstorm new location ideas, and provide endless encouragement. She also filled her home with my artwork, printing and proudly displaying my photographs on every available wall and shelf. Her home was a gallery of my journey, showcasing her belief in my talent.

When it came time to decide my future, she fully supported my choice to pursue photography in college. She was my number-one fan, pouring over every image I captured and offering unyielding praise and encouragement. Her belief in my abilities gave me the confidence to push boundaries and pursue my dreams.

Mom’s impact on my career didn’t stop there. She helped me join my first artist coalition, land my debut solo art show at Mother Road Brewery, and attended every First Friday art show opening for my galleries. When I transitioned into wedding photography, she became an integral part of my work. For nine years, she assisted me at every wedding, becoming not only my business partner but also my best friend and greatest supporter. Her presence at each event brought me strength and joy.

Honoring My Mother

Some of my favorite memories with my mom are the photography road trips we took together multiple times per year. These trips were a blend of adventure, creativity, and quality time. We would map out scenic routes, explore new locations, and chase the perfect light. During these travels, we shared countless conversations, laughter, and moments of quiet appreciation for the beauty around us. Those road trips weren’t just about photography; they were about deepening our bond and creating memories that I will treasure forever.

Even when she got sick, her dedication to helping me succeed didn’t waver. She babysat my children so I could focus on my clients and accompanied me on countless photography road trips and portrait sessions. Whether it was lending an ear at the end of a long day, brainstorming new business ideas, or cheering me on in every new endeavor, my mom was always there.

Saaty Photography would not exist without my mother’s early and continued support of my passion. She instilled in me the belief that art matters, that creativity can change lives, and that following your dreams is always worth it. As I move forward, I carry her love, guidance, and spirit with me in every photo I take and every moment I capture.

Mom, thank you for everything. Your light continues to inspire me every day, and I will honor your legacy through my work and the life you helped me build. I miss you endlessly, but your love remains the heart of Saaty Photography.

Words can not express how thankful and happy we are that we chose Monica to capture our perfect day. She made us feel both comfortable and confident in the whole process. She has this ease that makes you feel you’ve known her for years. Her kindness, personality, and professionalism was beyond what we could have hoped for. Her communication and organization was so impressive as well (I am far from organized)! Our photos are AMAZING, they are perfect. We wish we could do it all over again, and again. Seriously, book her right now! Best choice we could have made, and she helped make our day so wonderfully memorable and way less stressful.
