How to Prepare Your Kids for Northern Arizona Family Photos
Your Perfect Session: How to Prepare Your Kids for Northern Arizona Family Photos. Kids moods change and vary from day to day and are easily effected by any number of outside factors which can make planning and executing family pictures seem a little stressful and daunting at times. You want everything to go smoothly and them to look their best so I wanted to put together a little guide on how to get the prepared for the session and help ease your stress.
A great way to start getting them prepared is to talk to them beforehand and explain to them how the photoshoot is going to go and what it entails so they know what to expect the next day. You also want to make sure to talk it up like it is this super cool and exciting thing for them to be spending their day doing so they get excited for it.
When planning their outfits you want to check the weather and make sure you have outfits picked out that go with the season so your kids aren’t too hot or too cold and then lay out their outfits the night before, including back-up outfits, to make the morning of easier to get them fed and out the door for the session. You also want to make sure they are also comfortable in the outfits you pick out for them so that they’re happy and not fiddling with them the whole session and crying. Even if you think that pink hair bow or having their shirt tucked in will make or break the outfit, if they’re unhappy you’ll be able to see it in the pictures. So it is better to compromise and make sure they are happy.
More Considerations
You also want to make sure to feed them before hand and bring snacks and extra water. Hungry and dehydrated kids are irritable and hard to get to cooperate. Make sure the snacks aren’t too big or messy to handle but for any left over crumbs or messes having wet wipes on hand is a good idea. You also want to make sure you have plenty of extra water for yourself as well, it doesn’t take long for dehydration to set in and can cause headaches and make everyone irritable which makes staying hydrated super important.
Having bribes and rewards on hand is also a good trick to have up your sleeve on the day of. Anything that makes them excited to help them behave and stand still, whether it’s toys or ice cream or a piece of candy, bribes are a good way to help children focus on the task at hand, especially when they are little.
However, the most important thing is to be positive and have fun with it! It is easier to evoke genuine smiles and emotions from your kids when you are relaxed and let loose a little. Finding ways to make them naturally laugh as opposed to telling them “don’t smile like that” or “give me a nice smile” will help show their true smiles and personalities while making the session more fun and personal to your family.
