Incorporating Your Hobbies into Your Engagement Session

How To: Incorporating Your Hobbies into Your Engagement Session. Your engagement photography is more than just a collection of memorable photos that mark a milestone in your life. Your photos should reflect who you are, and include the things you love! I get so excited when my clients incorporate things that are special to them in their sessions. If you and your partner love binging on a favorite tv show, or root for a favorite team during football season, feel free to add aspects of these hobbies into your photos. Below are a few ideas for hobby-related themes that can add a personal touch to your engagement session!

Take Photos at a Meaningful Location

Your location for the shoot can be more than just a beautiful background. It can also be a place that means a lot to you! For example, if you and your partner’s idea of a perfect date is a stroll through one of your favorite parks, consider making this the location for your session. Or if the two of you first met roaming the streets of Downtown Flagstaff, this is a great location idea, too! Get together with your partner to brainstorm locations that hold a special meaning for both of you.

Include Props that Represent You

If the hobby-related location of your choice isn’t accessible to you, using props is a creative, cost-effective way to incorporate your interests into your session. Do you and your partner absolutely love playing music together and belting out a tune? Bring your instruments to the session! Are you both avid campers who love exploring the outdoors? Pack up your camping gear and take it with you to your session. The options are endless!

Wear Clothing that Expresses Your Interests

Unsure about a location or props you can incorporate? Try themed clothing! If you’re worried about it looking cheesy, consider incorporating a small personal item or accessory that has meaning to you. And, if you’re an astronomy buff, maybe it’s a locket that has your favorite constellation engraved in it. If you love thrift shopping, it could be a beautiful vintage dress or shirt you found during a recent shopping trip. Including a small clothing item in your session is a great way to add personality without it drawing too much attention in your photos!

Words can not express how thankful and happy we are that we chose Monica to capture our perfect day. She made us feel both comfortable and confident in the whole process. She has this ease that makes you feel you’ve known her for years. Her kindness, personality, and professionalism was beyond what we could have hoped for. Her communication and organization was so impressive as well (I am far from organized)! Our photos are AMAZING, they are perfect. We wish we could do it all over again, and again. Seriously, book her right now! Best choice we could have made, and she helped make our day so wonderfully memorable and way less stressful.
