Adopt Don’t Shop: Three Reasons to Rescue Animals
Three Reasons to Rescue Animals: Adopt Don’t Shop. The need and desire for companionship is a huge driving force in life. It isn’t so much for survival but just for someone to share your everyday life with and be there for you when you need them. However, this someone doesn’t always have to be another person. Animals make for great personal companions, giving you the purest form of love and being there for you through thick and thin. Adopting an animal is amazing for so many reasons, but I picked out a few really awesome reasons to share.
Reason #01
A huge, and really important and awesome reason to adopt an animal shelter rather than buying one from a pet store or breeder is that by adopting you save a life. Many animals end up in shelters because they are strays or surrendered by owners that no longer have the ability or circumstances to properly care for them and are really good animals that just need someone to love them and give them a second place to call home. While many shelters are transferring over to being no kill shelters not all are. In kill shelters animals only have a certain number of days to get adopted or they are euthanized, but when you choose to adopt, even if from a no kill shelter, you are still saving a life. Often times when no kill shelters have room they will go to kill shelters and move some of their animals to their facility to save them from an untimely fate.
Reason #02
When you adopt you are not only saving a life but you are also gaining a new best friend. When you adopt them and bring them into their new fur-ever home where they feel safe and loved you will change their entire world and they will in turn change yours. There is nothing quite like the unconditional love that a rescue pet gives you. By saving them from a terrifying situation and showing them love and kindness they will always be there to great you when you come home, give you kisses when you need them — and when you don’t— and give you all of the snuggles you could have ever asked for. Rescue dogs are endlessly loyal when it comes to being there for their new family.
Reason #03
Another great thing that you do by adopting a pet from a shelter rather than buying a pet from a pet store or breeder is you help stop the cruelty of the mass breeding industry and facilities. While there are some breeders that breed dogs in a semi-humane way, they are still using a dog for litter after litter of puppies that they then take away from the mother and sell never to be seen again. However, for every humane breeder there are even more criminally inhumane ones running puppy mills where female dogs are held in cages for their entire lives, never knowing the love of human contact, and forced to produce litter after litter of puppies and when they are no longer making money for the breeder they are gotten rid of. Yet, if more people start adopting from shelters instead of shopping from breeders and stores the demand for breeders and their dogs will go down and they will no longer be making a profit and will be forced to shut down. This means that while you are saving a life now, you are also helping saving so many more lives in the future.
All pets make for amazing companions in life, from adventurous outings to indoor movie nights and cuddle puddles, but adopting a pet brings so much more joy into their life and yours while still getting a loving companion to have by your side.
