Saaty Photography: 5 Best Photography Locations in Sedona
Sedona is one of the most magical places to take photos and there is no question why people travel from all over to visit and explore the unique landscape. With red rock, green desert brush, and blue skies (most of the time!) the colors alone make for jaw dropping images. There are seemingly endless trails and vistas to choose from. Here are the 5 best photography locations in Sedona for sessions and why I love them.
Bell Rock + Courthouse Vista
Bell Rock is truly a Sedona classic! It is easy to spot out of all the gorgeous red rocks because the name is quite fitting. It is shaped like a massive bell like the kind you might ring at an old fashioned hotel! With an easy, short trail, it is highly accessible and there is even a bathroom and a convenient place to park. It does get pretty busy, so getting up early to beat the crowd is not a bad idea! At Bell Rock, the views of Sedona are magnificent and it provides a stunning view of nearby Courthouse Butte. Another option nearby with a second parking area is Courthouse Vista. This offers fantastic views of Bell Rock from farther away with the same benefits of a beginner trail.
Lizard Head Trail
World-class views are not hard to come by in Sedona and this is no exception. Lizard Head trail is a short hike that leads to thunder mountain and Chimney Rock with panoramic views of Sedona the whole way, surrounded by lovely green juniper, prickly pear, agave, and tall golden grasses that are perfect for the stunning desert vibes Sedona is known for.
Upper Red Rock Crossing / Crescent Moon
Red Rock Crossing, also known as Crescent Moon, is one of the best places in Sedona to explore. There are some amazing views of Sedona, featuring the beautiful Cathedral Rock with Oak Creek in the foreground. The water is easily accessible with paved walkways almost the entire way form the parking area. On top of that, there is a grassy area with trees, an adorable barn and corral and more views of Sedona. Near the water there are green lush plants, creating the perfect oasis.
Lovers Knoll is a magnificent location with a name to match. It is a popular pull off on Red Rock Loop, a scenic mountain road featuring remarkable views of Sedona. Once you arrive you will quickly see what makes this location so special. The vista is breathtaking and the parking is plentiful– truly a winning combo! This spot is a Sedona gem, especially at sunset!
West Fork Trail
If you’ve driven down State Route 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona, chances are you’ve seen the lines of cars going to the West Fork parking lot in Oak Creek Canyon. Though it is quite the crowded hike, it is crowded for good reason! The West Fork Trail has it all– red rock walls, creek access, and lush vegetation (that turn beautiful colors in the fall). This location is best in the morning before the influx of hikers hit the trails and before the parking lot fills up! This location has so much variety and options to offer within only a short walking distance!
Why do I love Sedona? As both a resident of Northern Arizona and a nature lover, I can tell you that Sedona is a one-of-a-kind place! It’s no secret why people from all over the world come to see Red Rock Country.
