3 Best Grand Canyon Sunset Spots

Saaty Photography: 3 Best Grand Canyon Sunset Spots. Making stunning scenery breathtaking. Do you want to relax after a long day of hiking and exploring? Letting the day end by watching the sun set over the Grand Canyon is the perfect closure! This time of day is beautiful anywhere at the south rim, but after years of visiting, I know a few spots where your view will be extra special.

#1 Lipan Point

The first location is Lipan Point, only half a mile north from the main scenic drive, the desert view drive. Lipan Point lies on top of a small summit that almost has a 360 degree view of its surroundings. With 7, 300 feet above sea level, overlooking the Seventy-five Mile Creek, you can see the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon Supergroup. The 8 mile long Tanner Trail also starts close to this viewpoint. The Lipan Point definitely will give you a memorable experience of the sunset.

#2 Moran Point

Another great spot is Moran Point. Named after Thomas Moran, the Moran Point is located a few miles east from the Grand Canyon Village. It is the most visited viewpoint and offers stunning panoramic views of the Grand Canyon both at sunrise and sunset. You will be able to see all three main rock groups of the Grand Canyon! The Moran point has easy access with a parking lot for visitors, but be there early or before and after rush hours in summer! Watching the shadows and changing light while feeling the golden sun on your skin is such a calming and peaceful experience.

#3 Mather Point

My last tip is the Mather Point, which is only an five minute walk from the Grand Canyon Visitor Center. It offers a vast view of the south rim with glimpses of the colorado river, phantom ranch and lots of hiking trails. During sunrise and sunset you can witness the rock formations being dipped in sunlight, highlighting its different colors. As it does not take a lot of time to get there and is easily accessible, Mather Point is the perfect place for a spontaneous sunset watching party.

Words can not express how thankful and happy we are that we chose Monica to capture our perfect day. She made us feel both comfortable and confident in the whole process. She has this ease that makes you feel you’ve known her for years. Her kindness, personality, and professionalism was beyond what we could have hoped for. Her communication and organization was so impressive as well (I am far from organized)! Our photos are AMAZING, they are perfect. We wish we could do it all over again, and again. Seriously, book her right now! Best choice we could have made, and she helped make our day so wonderfully memorable and way less stressful.
